Gangs are a phenomenon that has
been threatening the peace of Salvadorian families in the last two decades. El
Salvador is one of the most developed countries regarding violence. According
to a recent research lead by an important University in El Salvador, there are
some massive causes of gangs in El Salvador. The first cause is family
disintegration. In these days, many marriages are divorcing for different
reasons. Their children stay unprotected and they don’t have a role model who
can advise them. As a result, many children ran away from their houses to look
for other people who can offer them shelter. Another cause that motivates
teenagers to join gangs is the lack of opportunities such as education or job
opportunities. El Salvador’s education system is not good enough, and children
prefer leaving school since it is more interesting for them to be on the
streets. As a result, they join the gang member, which, at the end of the day,
affects everybody.
